In Greene County district court a judgment was entered Jan. 3 against Chae Thomas Michael Malone, 21, of Boone after he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted burglary-third degree, amended from burglary-third degree. Malone was sentenced to two years in prison; the prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. Malone must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $120 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs. Charges in magistrate court of trespass-simple and theft-fifth degree were dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria A. Kester)
A judgment was entered Jan. 10 against Clay Wayne Hoffman, 29, of Sioux City after he entered an Alford plea to a charge of assault on a peace officer. In entering an Alford plea a defendant does not admit committing a crime, but believes that given the facts in a county attorney’s information, a jury would find him guilty of the crime. Hoffman was sentenced to 365 days in jail; all but 90 days was suspended. That time is consecutive to a sentence on a Greene County charge of operating while intoxicated. He is to remain in custody pending placement at an appropriate residential facility. Hoffman was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge. He must also pay $225.12 court costs and $60 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. (Sentencing: Kester)
A judgment was entered in Greene County magistrate court Dec. 10 in a case originated in district court against Corey Michael Renfer, 23, of Carroll. Renfer was charged with giving false report to law enforcement- class D felony. The charge was amended to false report-simple misdemeanor. He was fined $100 with a $35surcharge. Renfer must also pay $48 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: Magistrate Rita Pedersen)
Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Erin Elizabeth Cain, 25, of Boone, OWI-first offense; and Brenda Rice Sutherland, 55, of West Des Moines, OWI-first. Trial dates were set for March 4 in both cases.

Schofield, 27, of Jefferson, theft-aggravated; Patrick Paul Schon, 44, of Glidden, OWI-third offense; Angus Foutch, 19, of Grand Junction, domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury; Amanda Rae Rohan, 31, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; and Joshua Jay Blumberg, 18, of Grand Junction, criminal mischief-second degree aiding and abetting.
